Today's Classwork and important Reminder!

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Reading: We went over the I Chart for Read to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly. Masha'Allah students are doing a great job maintaining stamina. Today we maintained stamina for 17 minutes! Way to go 2B!

Spelling:Students did their spelling quiz on lesson 2 today.

Math: We read 2 books on patterns. Patterns are all around, and when you encourage your child to recognize patterns, you are strengthening their math skills. Students completed page 3 in their math workbook.
.Home connection:
                 Encourage your child to create patterns and identify pattern core by arranging colored blocks, crayons, different sized objects, or stringing beads and more. You can also invite them to create patterns in their physical movements such as “jump, jump, clap; jump, jump, clap.” Ask them about the pattern they are creating. 

Science:Today we started our first Science unit on "Growth and Changes in Animals". Students learned about the six animal groups that they will be studying in this unit. We started to learn about mammals by watching an educational video.We had a discussion after the video and then students completed a mammal worksheet.

Library:We went to the library and checked out books.

Reminders:
  • We are going on a field trip to an apple orchard on October 06,2015  in shaa Allah, and the deadline to submit the form is Friday, October 2nd,2015.Please note that the trip may possibly be cancelled if it rains.You will be notified a day before  in shaa Allah so please check your emails/ blog for updates.

Classwork and Important Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Carpet Time: We sat on the carpet  and started off our morning meeting with izkars, Alhumdulliah.Then,students took turns to describe how they felt in Eid and some of the fun activities they got to do.

Reading: We went over the I Chart for Read to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly. Masha'Allah students are doing a great job maintaining stamina.

Spelling: We completed lesson 3 in our spelling books where we learned words with the short vowels a and i.

Math: Students took turns saying different patterns using different attributes (sound, size, colour, letters...etc). We reviewed patterns and core by playing a game "Catch the Ball". Then, we completed page 2 in their math books where they drew patterns and answered questions about patterns.

Gym: We went to Gym and each team got a chance to race against the other team.It was a lot of fun!



Reminders:
  • Students have a spelling quiz tomorrow on lesson 2 "Consonants" The list words are: let, his, had, ask, old, took, also, sat, fell, get .
  • Please sign your child's agenda.
  • Tomorrow is the deadline to submit the milk forms.
  • Today students took home a trip form, and the deadline to submit the form is Friday, October 2nd,2015

Class Updates and Important Reminders!

Assalamu Alaikum,

Dear Parents,



 Here are updates from last week!

Spelling: We did lesson 2 in our spelling books on consonants.

Reading: Students have been working on maintaining stamina during read to self, and masha'allah they are doing a good job!

Math: We are learning about patterns. We learned that the repeated part in a pattern is called a CORE or a UNIT. We also learned different types of patterns (AB, ABC, ABCD, ABB, AAB...etc)

Students practiced finding the core of a pattern on their white boards. They copied different patterns from the blackboard and circled the core for each of them. Students also completed pages 2, 152, and 153 in their math books. InshaAllah next week your child will be taking home his/her math book. 

Hajj Craft: Students finished making their mobile hajj crafts.

Eid CraftWe coloured pictures of children and flags of different countries to decorate our Eid door. The idea is  that although muslims live in different parts of the world, Islam unites them all!
Students also had lots of fun making Eid cards.

Islamic Studies: Students sat on the carpet, and I read the book, "Allah's Best Friend" to them.

Gym: We went to the public park today and played on the play structure.

Reminders: 

  • We are going to Midway to celebrate Eid on Monday, September 28th, 2015, Please send in the field trip permission slips by Monday morning! Students cannot go on the trip without permission slips. Please make sure that your child wears comfortable clothes (no Eid-outfits!) and running shoes. 
  • At Midway, lunch will be provided but please make sure to pack extra food/snacks for your child.
  • The deadline to submit milk forms is September 30, 2015.
  • Students have a spelling quiz on Tuesday 09/29/2015 on lesson 2.  The list words are: let, his, had, ask, old, took, also, sat, fell, get.
  • Gift exchange on Monday: Bring a gift for a classmate of your choice worth $5 or less. Students will select a gift randomly from an anonymous classmate!

Monday's Classwork and Reminders

Assalamu Alaikum,

Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Spelling: Students wrote their spelling quiz and the bonus was to write 3 nouns!:)

Math: We started our first unit today in math on PATTERNS. Today we talked about how a pattern is repeated, the different attributes we have when making a pattern (colour, shape, size..etc). students took turns  in groups to show  different patterns,and they completed some  repeated pattern worksheets independently.

Read to Self: We went over the I CHART for Read to Self then,students took their book boxes and read quietly.

Islamic Studies: Students sat on the carpet and they took turns to share some of the good deeds they did over the weekend. Students wrote a good deed they did over the weekend on a post- it, and  then they went to post them on the  Dhul Hijja Good Deed Board.

Reminders:
  • Students  took home an Eid Field Trip form  (due date is Wednesday,23/19/2015)
  • Donate to help Syria.

Classwork and Homework

Assalamu Alakium,

Dear Parents,

Islamic Studies: Students learned more about Hajj through an activity called "Hajj Day by Day". As a class, we also discussed about one of the attributes of Allah (SWT), which is " Al-Awwal." We learned that we should be doing all deeds for the sake of Allah because Allah comes first before anything.

Reading: Students practiced their reading stamina after going over the ICHART.

Grammar: We reviewed nouns and finished a sorting worksheet where they sorted words that are nouns and words that are not nouns.

Math: Students worked on their math review pack where they answered questions about fractions, skip counting, money, and patterns. On Monday, we will be starting Patterning, inshaallah.

Art: Students started to work on their "Hajj Mobile" craft. 


Reminders:
  • Spelling test on Monday, September 21st,2015.
  • List words for Monday's spelling quiz are: fox, cut, hill, wind, put, all, moon,saw, tell, new.
  • Please sign your child's agenda on a daily basis.
  • Milk forms were sent home today. The due date is September 30th, 2015.

Today's Classwork and Important Reminders!



Assalamu Alakium,

Dear Parents,

Today we had a great day alhamdulilah!

Islamic Studies: We started off our day with morning Izkar. We are also memorizing the dua of the month: 

We learned that good deeds are very important in the blessed days we are in now. We discussed some of the many blessings we have and how we could help the Syrian refugees. Students worked in groups to make a T- chart where on one side they drew pictures of blessings they havel and on other side of T- chart they drew  the sufferings of Syrian kids. Students watched videos showing how the people in Syria are living one more time.

We also read a story "Builders Of Kabah" to learn about prophet Ibraheem and Ismaeel.

Math: Students worked on their math review pack where they answered questions about fractions, skip counting, money, and patterns.

Reading: We went over the "I Chart" for reading to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly. We have a Stamina Chart in class where we record the number of minutes we maintain stamina everyday.

Language: We reviewed nouns by watching an educational video on nouns. Students also played a game with a ball where they took turns to say a noun, and then a word that is not a noun. We will be making a Noun Town. Please ask your child about it.

Class Dojo Team Points: Our class theme is Olympics! Today students were placed into continent teams according to the colour of the Olympic rings. They started to collect points for their teams. Stay tuned for further information about how we are going to incorporate the Olympics theme with other subjects and character education, in sha Allah.

Reminders: 
  • Tomorrow is the Hajj Workshop. Your child should come in or bring a jilbab/thawb or can bring two towels.
  • Please donate to help our Syrian sisters and brothers. Encourage your child to also donate money from his or her allowance.
  • List words for Monday's spelling quiz are: fox, cut, hill, wind, put, all, moon, saw, tell, new
  • Please sign your child's agenda.
  • Don't forget to check Class Dojo to see the points your child collected and more!
  • Remind your child to colour a stone each day in the Good Deed Chart!

Classwork

Assalamu Alaikum,

Dear Parents,

Today we had a great day alhamdulilah!

Islamic Studies: Students sat on the carpet and I read "Allah is Our Creator " from the "I Love Islam"  textbook. Then we discussed the story  of Prophet Ibrahim and the idols.

We learned that good deeds are very important in these ten  blessed days of Dhul Hijjah. We discussed some of the many blessings we have and how we could help the Syrian refugees. Students watched videos showing how the people in Syria are living. Then we discussed how we can help to put smile on these people.

Reading:We went over the I Chart for reading to Self, students took their book boxes and read quietly. We have a Stamina Chart in class where we record the number of minutes we maintain stamina everyday.

Grammar:We started to learn about nouns. Students completed some worksheets on nouns.

Gym: We played Freeze Tag in our Gym time.


Important Notes:
  • Yesterday students took home their Classdojo login information. Your child can get and lose points on Classdojo. I will be sending pictures of activities we do in class, and it is also a great way to always be updated on your child's progress!
  • They also took home today "The 10 days of Dhul-Hijjah's Good Deed Chart" where they should keep track of the good deeds they do and colour one stone at the end of each day.
  • In shaa Allah students will have a spelling quiz every Monday. We completed the first lesson in our spelling book, and in shaa Allah on Monday there will be a spelling quiz on the list words in lesson 1.
  • If your child does not have indoor shoes, please make sure you bring them as soon as possible.

EMBRACE SYRIA-MAC NATIONAL CAMPAIGN:
Today students took home a form where you can donate to help the Syrian Refugees.

Classwork and Quran homework



As-salamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Dear Parents,

I hope and pray that all of you are doing well, Insha Allah. Today we had a wonderful day alhamdulilah!

Reading: We started to practice the first component of the Daily 5 program which is "Read To Self." Students are practicing to be independent readers by building their reading stamina for a certain period of time. So far, Grade 2B are doing a great job learning about how to be independent readers, MashaAllah. 

Spelling: We completed our first lesson about consonants (letters that are not vowels) in our spelling books. Every Monday we will have our spelling quiz from the previous lesson and afterwards we will start a new lesson inshaAllah. 

Math: We reviewed some Math facts by playing a game called "Catch a Ball."

Islamic Studies: We are reading Chapter 2 "I Think of Allah Everywhere" from "I love Islam"text book.I

EMBRACE SYRIA-MAC NATIONAL CAMPAIGN: Today in assembly Dr. Saleem talked to us about how important it is to put a smile on the faces of our brothers and sisters in Syria. In class we talked about how hard the situation in Syria has become, how the people are suffering, and how they are in need of our help.





Homework:


  • Please practice with your child Surah Al-Bayyinah, Ayahs 1 to 2.
  • Student took home a class dojo login form, please sign the form and log in to check your child's account on class dojo.

Second Day of School

As-salamu-alaikum wa Rahmatullah

Dear Parents,

I hope and pray that all of you are doing well, Insha Allah. Today we had a wonderful day  alhamdulilah!



Reading: Students sat on the carpet and I read "How I Spent my Summer Vacation". Students took turns and shared with their peers how they spent their Summer vacation.Students went back to their places and drew pictures in sunglasses of some of the lovely places they visited and great things they did!


IPICK: One significant theme mentioned throughout Daily 5 Reading and Literacy CAFE is teaching students to pick “good fit” books. An important part of becoming a successful independent reader is being able to choose “good fit” books.Today we talked about how to choose a good fit book.We used an acronym " IPICK" and discussed each letter in detail. Then student took turns to go book shopping from the class Library. Each child has an individual book bin to keep their books. Ask your child about IPICK and book shopping, and see what he or she has to say!

Welcome Back!

It was truly a pleasure getting to meet my second graders today!  Masha''Allah they are a wonderful group and I can't wait to get to know them more!




Today we had a lovely day alhamdulilah where we did some ice breakers, made name tents, read books and came up with the class rules as a class.
