Class Updates and Important Reminders


Assalamu Alaikum,


Writing/Reading:  Students maintained stamina during "WORK ON WRITING." Their task was to write how they can inform people about skittles, to persuade people to eat skittles, and to use their imagination to write a story about skittles to entertain people.

Islamic Studies: On Thursday, the 4Bs joined us to teach us about wudu. Students worked in groups with the 4Bs where the grade 4 students acted out wudu, and the grade 2Bs had to figure out the mistakes they made. Grade 2B did a wonderful job, MashaAllah!

    


We learned about prayer and how it is the key to Jannah. We read the 2 lessons in our "I Love Islam" textbook about prayer and also learned the meaning of Khoshoo. We also made a salah board game and then played with our friends to review our knowledge about prayer.

Science Projects Slideshow: Please check out the amazing work all students did for their Science Project. Masha-Allah!




Gym: We went to the gym and played "Dodgeball" and Freeze Tag.


Computer Lab: We went to the computer lab where each student read a book on Raz kids. Then we played educational games!



Class Party:We had a great time socializing with our friends by eating an ice cream treat from Tr. Ibtissam. As well, we also ate cake and other yummy food during the goodbye party for Reema. She will be missed in the class and we all pray to Allah for success and blessings for her.


Homework:
Have a great time enjoying the beautiful weather, going for walks, visiting the library,  and spending quality time with your children :) 

Reminders:
  • Students signed up for 30/50 books reading challenge during winter break. They are encouraged to make a reading chain with all the books they read during the winter break, due on January 11th,2016.(Instructions were sent home on Friday) Here is a reference picture of reading chain:
                                               
  • Students who didn't attend the PTI night took home their DRA results on Friday along with the reading bookmark for parents
  • Encourage your child to play the "My Salat Journey" board game to review what they learned about prayer in a fun way.
  • Students took home a salah tracker sheet to practice daily prayers during the winter break.
  • If you did not return the book your child borrowed for the project, please make sure you take it back to the public library.

Updates and Reminders!


                                  

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a wonderful day today  Alhamdulilah!

Spelling:We completed lesson 14 in our spelling books where we learned consonant blends with "S".

Language:Students learned "Author's Purpose!" It means an author writes for three purposes which is as easy as PIE. (P- to persuade,  I- to inform, E- to entertain). We did different activities to understand author's purpose as a class and in pairs. Ask your child when he/she reads a book about author's purpose. :)

                      

Math: Today, students wrote a quiz on bar graphs and pictographs.

Science: Students are doing a great job in presenting their bird/insect projects. We also presented our projects in library class andTr. Nancy gave us some great feedback! We got to learn interesting facts about owls, snowy owls, fleas, eagle, hawk, ostrich, and Canadian Geese to name a few!

Library: Students checked out books from the school library.

Islamic Studies:We read a story called "Hamza Learns Wudu" and reviewed how to make wudu and the importance of conserving water.

Class Updates, Quran Homework, and Reminders!

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a wonderful day today  Alhamdulilah!

Spelling: Today students wrote their spelling quiz on lesson 13 (blends with r an l), and the bonus was to write 3 words with consonant blends with r and l

Math: We reviewed bar graphs and pictographs by completing pages 26 and 27 in our math books. Students wrote a survey question, made a tally chart for the data collected, created a bar graph or pictograph, and then described their graph using math language. Great job, 2B!

Islamic Studies:We have been working hard since Friday on our " All About Wudu " lap book.  In this lap book, students are making  a step book of wudu, a wudu puzzle, a flower foldable that shows things that nullifies wudu, a wudu word search, and what the Quran says about wudu.They all are enjoying and doing a great job on their lap book, MashaAllah!

Class Upates and Reminders!


Assalamu Alaikum,

We are working hard in 2B alhamdulilah!

Here are some updates!

Reading: Yesterday Sr. Madlien read the class a great book that teaches us to be more humble and accept the advice of others! The book is called" King Hugo's Huge Ego". Students also completed a worksheet where they circled the meanings of vocabulary words.

Grammar/ Writing: Students did a writing activity called " I am one of a kind..." where they wrote sentences using adjectives that describe them. Students were reminded to use at least one compound sentence in their writing. They did a wonderful job, MashaAllah!






Math: We have been practicing how to create and read pictographs through group and independent work.

Science: Yesterday, we reviewed about amphibians by playing a game " Catch the Ball".Then students worked independently to write 5 special things they learned about amphibians 



Make Junior Fun: Today we had a great time making cards that light up! Jazakum Allahu Khairun for all parent volunteers who came to help out. We couldn't have one without them!


Reminders:
  • Students have a spelling quiz on lesson 13 on Monday. The list words are: grass, trunk, truck, flew, flat, class, plate, from, glove, friend.
  • Students have a math test on BAR GRAPHS and PICTOGRAPHS on Wednesday (12/16/2015).
  • Students will be taking a Math pack tomorrowin shaa Allah.
  • Work on the animal project (Project requirements and due dates were emailed on Nov 30th)

Class Updates, Quran Homework and Reminders!

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a wonderful day today and yesterday alhamdulilah!

Spelling: Yesterday, students wrote their review spelling quiz on lessons 7 to 11. We also completed lesson 13 about consonant blends r and l in our spelling books.

Language: We reviewed compound sentences, and  then students completed a worksheet where they sorted simple and compound sentences independently.




Math: We started our Monday by learning how to create and read pictographs. Students wrote down the meaning  and purpose of pictographs in their math journals. Today, students collected data about the eye color of their classmates and then each team made a pictograph based on the data.They did a great job Masha Allah!

Islamic Studies: We played a Wudu game! Today students from each group came up, and took turns to show the steps of wudu, in order, and collected points.

Health: We learned that there is no such thing as good food and bad food, but rather we call it "EVERYDAY FOOD" and SOMETIMES FOOD". We also learned about Balanced DIETS. Students worked in groups to cutout pictures of different foods from flyers and paste them in right the category (everyday or sometimes), and they made a balanced  snack. Then each group presented their work in front of the class.  Masha'Allah they all did a fabulous job! 


Qura'n Homework: Practice surat Ala'la Ayah 1-6.


Reminders:
  •  Students took home hot lunch and milk forms.
  • Read the story "Frog and Toad" on Raz kids.

Class Updates and Reminders!

Assalamu Alaikum,

We had a wonderful week last week alhamdulilah!

Reading:Students practiced their reading stamina during read to self.

Sr. Madlien read "Desmond and the Very Mean Word", a great book that teaches children about being forgiving and how discrimination is not acceptable.

Vocabulary:On Wednesday, we played a game to practice our vocabulary list where students in their teams took turns to guess a meaning  of a vocabulary word.The team that shouted out the right word first, got a point!

Writing: Each student chose 5 words from our vocabulary list, and they wrote a sentence using each in their journals.







Math: On Wednesday, Students worked independently to complete two math worksheets on bar graphs. Then, they completed page 21 and 23 in their math books, where they answered questions about their bar graphs.

On Thursday, students worked in groups to conduct a survey and record results. Then, each student worked independently to show results in a bar graphs (they were reminded to use TAILS) by making a mini booklet.
On Friday, we read the definition of SURVEY, and each student wrote three survey question in their math books. Then they used a poster of a basketball game to write a survey question, made a tally mark chart, and showed results in a bar graph using TAILS.

Islamic Studies:Students did a graffiti activity about  QURAN, HADEETH and PROPHET MOHAMMED (SAW). 

Reminders:
  • The spelling quiz on Monday is a revision on lessons 7 to 11.
  • Work on your Animal Project.
  • Math pack is due on Thursday.
  • Work on your reading stamina chart at home.
