Class Updates and Reminders!

Assalamu Alaikum wr wb ,
Dear Parents,

We had a wonderful week Alhamdululilah! Here the updates:

Field Trip: Field TripAlhamdulilah we had a great time at Papanack Zoo! Students enjoyed watching and learning about different animals at the zoo.

I would like to thank all the volunteers for their generous time and help! We could not have done this without them! Jazakum Allahu khairan!

Spelling: Students did their spelling quiz on lesson 3We completed lesson 4 in our spelling books where we learned words with the short vowel "a" and "i".

Reading: We went over the "I Chart" for Read to Self. Students took their book boxes and read quietly. Masha'Allah students are doing a great job maintaining stamina.

Grammer:We reviewed verbs and then each student made a flap book on verbs where they chose three verbs and then wrote a sentence about each of them. Finally, they drew a picture that goes along with each sentence.

Math:
On Wednesday, students wrote a pop quiz on numbers. Then, we started a unit on PATTERNS. This week, we talked about how a pattern is repeated, the different attributes we have when making a pattern (colour, shape, size..etc). Students took turns in groups to show different patterns, and they completed some activities in their math book.

Moreover, we learned that the repeating part of a pattern is called the CORE or the UNIT. We also learned different types of patterns (AB, ABC, ABCD, ABB, AAB...etc).Next week we will be learning about "Growing Patterns" inshaaAllah.

.Home connection:Encourage your child to create patterns and identify pattern core by arranging colored blocks, crayons, different sized objects, or stringing beads and more. You can also invite them to create patterns in their physical movements such as “jump, jump, clap; jump, jump, clap.” Ask them about the pattern they are creating. :)

Feild Trip Reflection:Students took turns sharing their favourite part and least favourite part of the field trip. Then, each student filled up a field trip reflection sheet independently.

Science/Writing/Art:Students sat on the carpet and read a book on whales/killer whales as our animal study about mammals. Before reading we wrote what we know about whales being a mammal and what we want to know about whales as a special mammal on a graphic organizer called KWL chart. After reading, we wrote down all the interesting and fascinating information about whales as a class in the "what we learned" part of the chart. Followed by that we reviewed all the information one more time and then students wrote down the information in simple sentences independently on lined paper. Students started to make an Orca Whale craft in art class.

Islamic Studies: Students took turns to read and discussed ways about how to respect and be kind to our family by reading the chapter"I Love my Family" in their Islamic Studies textbook.
