Dear Parents,
We had a great week Alhumdulilah!
Reading: We practiced "Read To Self". The Grade 2B students maintained their reading stamina for 19 minutes, MashaAllah.
Spelling: On Tuesday, students wrote their spelling quiz on lesson 1 (consonant ) and then we completed lesson 2, where we completed activities on consonants.
Math: We completed page 14 in our math books where we read the definitions of SKIP COUNTING and ESTIMATE, we skip counted by 5s, estimated dots in a box, and we had a choice to count the dots by 2s or 5s and record the number of dots. We also completed skip counting by 5s.2s,10s , 4s and 25s booklet on a hundred chart. Moreover, students had an opportunity to estimate and count the dry pasta in their groups. Each group was given a handful of dry pasta to estimate and then count by 2s, 5s, or 10s.
We completed page 15 in our math books after we figured out how many socks we were wearing altogether (24 students are wearing 48 socks), students showed the number 48 in 4 different ways.(Pictures, tally marks, ten frames, and tens and ones).
We also learned ordinal numbers from first to twentieth by doing different hands-on activities as a class and independently.
Grammer: Students practiced learning about Common and Proper nouns through different activities.On Friday, they wrote a pop quiz on it. Starting next week we will learn about verbs inshaaAllah!
Islamic studies/Social Studies:On Wednesday, we learned how Muslims around the world celebrate Eid.The next day we reviewed what we learned about different Muslim cultures regarding Eid and then completed a worksheet about how we celebrate Eid here in Canada in our homes.
Science: We started our first Science unit on "Growth and Changes in Animals". Students learned about Vertebrates and Invertebrates by watching an educational video.We had a discussion after the video about how 5 animal groups are classified as Vertebrates and one is classified as Invertebrates. (We will be studying these groups in this unit in detail.) The next day, students completed a cut/paste activity about vertebrates and invertebrates independently .
Islamic Studies/ Art: ,We learned and discussed one of the attributes of Allah (SWT), which is " Al-Awwal." We learned that we should be doing all deeds for the sake of Allah because Allah comes first before anything and anyone.
Yesterday, students used egg shells to make a lovely frame with Allah's name, Al- Awal. They all did a wonderful job Masha'Allah.
Math/ Art: Students made an ordinal number animal puzzle where each student an animal picture and then cut the picture into strips and numbered the strips using ordinal numbers.Then they took turns making each other's animal puzzle by putting the strips in order.
